Welcome Welcome to the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office Website. Hood River County is located in the majestic Columbia River Gorge. Our county is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts of all types. Hood River County is known for its windsurfing and kiteboarding on the Columbia River during the summer and skiing on Mt. Hood during the winter. In addition, Hood River County has a plethora of lakes and trails to enjoy. The Hood River County Sheriff’s is proud to serve the citizens who live and visit our county. About the Sheriff Hood River Sheriff Joseph Wampler grew up and attended school in Hood River, Oregon. He began his law enforcement career as a corrections officer for the Hood River Sheriff's Office. He then worked through the ranks at the Hood River Police Department, ultimately earning the rank of Captain. When Sheriff Wampler was elected in 1993 (taking office in January 1994), he was the youngest sheriff in office, at the age of 39. He began his fourth term in January of 2009. |
